Statement from Mr Campbell following the death of Her Majesty The Queen

09.09.22

On behalf of the entire St Antony’s school community I would like to express how deeply saddened we all are following the death of Her Majesty The Queen yesterday afternoon.

Born in April 1926, The Queen is the longest reigning monarch in the history of our country, having ascended to the throne in February 1952, aged 25 years old. Over the 70 years as our Head of State the Queen’s reign was marked by her strong sense of duty and her determination to dedicate her life to her throne and to her people. It will be this unwavering service to our country that we will all be forever grateful.

Through the years, Elizabeth II was, for many, the one constant point in a rapidly changing world. She saw 14 Prime Ministers come and go. Her first was the great Sir Winston Churchill and her last (and 15th) was the recently appointed Liz Truss. The people of the UK will never forget her example of dedicated, steadfast service and we thank her for what she has done in our name.

Leader, servant, icon, mother and grandmother. Whatever she was to us, I know there will be a deep, personal sense of loss as we come to terms with a life without our constant, our mainstay – our Queen

If we can say the eternal rest together please…

Eternal rest grant unto her, O Lord, and let Your perpetual light shine upon her. May her soul and the souls of all the faithful departed rest in peace.

Amen.
