Health for Teens Website – Trafford Launch

We are very excited to launch our new Health for Teens website in Trafford, which introduces a new and different way for young people aged 11-19 to learn about their health, support their own wellbeing, and increase the accessibility of school nurses.

What is Health for Teens?

Health for Teens features bite-sized information on a comprehensive range of physical and emotional health topics for young people, including healthy eating, body image, managing stress, advice on relationships, puberty, sexuality and much more. Young people can also find out about accessing help and support from local Trafford and Manchester services.

The site focuses on the following key health and wellbeing topic areas:

  • Feelings
  • Growing up
  • Health
  • Lifestyle
  • Relationships
  • Sexual Health

Why signpost young people to this?

The website is primarily a health promotion website, covering subjects that promote a healthy body and mind. To make this engaging and interactive, each topic page has various video clips and quizzes for young people, who are also able to share content easily with their peers via social media. The content published on this website is evidence-based health information in line with NHS standards, including NICE Guidelines.

The local ‘Your Area’ section is designed to navigate young people to local services and support available to them, whether they live, or attend school, in Trafford or Manchester. This way young people can choose their preferred location of where they can access help and support, including their local school nursing team.

How do I know the information is appropriate for the audience?

All content has been produced by school nurses, a whole range of other health and wellbeing experts, and most importantly young people. Families, children, and young people have been actively involved in developing all aspects of the website.

How do young people access?

Young people can access the website by entering HealthforTeens.co.uk and then selecting Manchester & Trafford from the location dropdown menu. After selecting their location, students will have access to localised services and support available in Trafford and Manchester to support with their health and wellbeing needs. However, young people can access the website without selecting a location, if preferred.

Chat health is also available for Trafford young people who want information and advice from their school nurse by either texting 07312 263 056 or by scanning the QR code on the attached poster. School nurses are accessible via text from 8am- 4:30pm, Monday to Friday.
